{"id":628,"date":"2014-12-23T05:21:04","date_gmt":"2014-12-23T05:21:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/?p=628"},"modified":"2014-12-23T05:28:35","modified_gmt":"2014-12-23T05:28:35","slug":"can-botox-be-reversed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/can-botox-be-reversed\/","title":{"rendered":"Can Botox be reversed?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Can we undo the effects of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botox\/\">Botox<\/a>?<\/h2>\n<p>Unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/juvederm\/\">hyaluronic acid fillers<\/a> such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/juvederm\/\">Juvederm<\/a>, Botox cannot be reversed by injecting another agent into the same area.<\/p>\n<h2>Using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botox\/\">Botox<\/a> to fight Botox<\/h2>\n<p>Like using fire to fight fire. \u00a0Well, probably more effective than that. \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botox\/\">Botox<\/a> injected in other parts of the muscle or an opposing muscle might lessen the undesirable original Botox effect.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Injecting Botox into the antagonistic muscle<\/span><\/h5>\n<p>But sometimes, Botox effects can be offset by additional injections of Botox into the opposing muscle (antagonistic muscle). \u00a0Most of the structures in our body are affected by muscles on a push and pull balance. \u00a0Botox affects that balance, but we can again re-establish a new balance point by working on the opposing muscle. \u00a0However Botox only works to relax a muscle. \u00a0 For example if an eyebrow looks like it has dropped, then we can further inject Botox in the muscles which normally depress the eyebrow such as the corrugator muscle or the obicularis oculi muscle &#8211; this could help spring the eyebrows back up.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Injecting Botox into the compensatory part of the same muscle<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Another way to help with Botox problems is the consider relaxing other parts of the same muscle. \u00a0\u00a0Sometimes we get a particular &#8220;surprised&#8221; look in the eyebrows with Botox. \u00a0This is the look where the eyebrows on the side go way up when we try to raise the eyebrow. \u00a0Sometimes this is called the &#8220;M&#8221; look or the &#8220;Spock&#8221; look and there are other names to this such as the &#8220;Mephisto&#8221; look. \u00a0I think the Spock look explains it quite well &#8211; with the pointed eyebrows. \u00a0This is usually\u00a0caused by an unequal weakening for the frontalis muscle (forehead muscle) at the central component of this muscle. \u00a0When the central part of the frontalis muslce is weaker the lateral part tries to <em>compensate<\/em>\u00a0by becoming eve more active. \u00a0We can compensate for this by injecting the lateral parts of the frontalis muscle with more Botox.<\/p>\n<h2>What about eye drops for lid ptosis (droop)?<\/h2>\n<p>If there is a eyelid droop, there are certain medications that can help the lid raise. \u00a0But there are other side effects associated with this technique. \u00a0I hope to come back to this topic in another blog.<\/p>\n<h2>Time heals Botox<\/h2>\n<p>With time, Botox effects wear off. \u00a0Fortunately some of the ill-effects of Botox are due to drifting of small quantities of the injected Botox. \u00a0Thus a few weeks might be all it takes for some of the effects to wear off.<\/p>\n<h4>The info here is just for informational discussion<\/h4>\n<p>This info isn&#8217;t meant as some sort of personalized medical advice. \u00a0Please see your Botox doctor or injector in person to have a discussion regarding Botox and any need for Botox correction.<\/p>\n<p>All the topics mentioned here is considered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/off-label-botox\/\">off label FDA usage of Botox<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My <a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\">Botox practice is in Modesto, CA<\/a>. \u00a0 I respect Botox injections as challenging procedures. \u00a0I&#8217;ve had my share of Botox problems and need for corrective Botox solutions. \u00a0I look at each of these Botox problems as an opportunity to improve for my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/category\/modesto\/\">Modesto<\/a>, California patients.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can we undo the effects of Botox?
