{"id":319,"date":"2014-11-18T07:02:39","date_gmt":"2014-11-18T07:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/?p=319"},"modified":"2014-11-25T01:20:15","modified_gmt":"2014-11-25T01:20:15","slug":"juvederm-voluma-notes-according-to-an-expert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/juvederm-voluma-notes-according-to-an-expert\/","title":{"rendered":"Juvederm Voluma Injection Notes according to an Expert outside of the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight I participated in a live lecture on the web regarding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.juvederm.com\/en.aspx\">Juvederm Voluma<\/a>\u00a0injection techniques. \u00a0I guess they call this format a webcast or webinar.<\/p>\n<p>I joined a few minutes late. \u00a0But it seemed to start with a discussion of facial muscle anatomy followed by a discussion of facial fat compartments.<\/p>\n<p>Here are m<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">y notes below for other Botox \u00a0injectors and Juvederm Voluma injectors if interested. \u00a0My personal technique is somewhat different because I use a cannula technique and he uses a direct needle technique. \u00a0 Cannula technique at this time is considered off-label FDA usage. \u00a0But I feel that it is, in my hands, a safer technique.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/demaio.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-366\" src=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/demaio-300x218.png\" alt=\"demaio\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/demaio-300x218.png 300w, https:\/\/www.injectionartistry.com\/botoxblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/demaio.png 611w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Some Juvederm Voluma \/ Cheek filler highlights:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Lateral support is important &#8211; at the level of the zygomatic arch.<\/li>\n<li>Females have fuller frontal cheek projection it seems than males.<\/li>\n<li>Anterior cheek injections can unfortunately reinforce the ptosis of the cheek.<\/li>\n<li>Cheeks become lower and more medial when smiling with age &#8211; age 40 vs age 50<\/li>\n<li>With volume loss in the submalar area &#8211; danger sign for &#8220;sausage&#8221; look with nasolabial filling<\/li>\n<li>The nasal flare shouldn&#8217;t be hidden with injections &#8211; avoid medial cheek injections.<\/li>\n<li>People who may look good in the frontal view, might not look good in the oblique view.<\/li>\n<li>Aspirate when injecting deep with Voluma<\/li>\n<li>With infection risk, there is granuloma risk.<\/li>\n<li>He labels the zymatic arch with v1, v2, v3<\/li>\n<li>v4 is the soft area of the cheek below v1, v2, v3.<\/li>\n<li>v=voluma<\/li>\n<li>avoid treating v4 first because of lack of bone support.<\/li>\n<li>He uses a pull upwards and backwards = &#8220;pinch traction&#8221; so the skin cannot go back to it&#8217;s original tendency after placement of voluma<\/li>\n<li>A discussion of J1, J2, J3, J4. \u00a0These are Juvederm locations.<\/li>\n<li>He talks about J4 as the vertical lip rhytids (lines) and talks about perpendicular injection to avoid elongation he says.<\/li>\n<li>At Voluma injeciton site #4, there are many dangerous sites such as parotid gland, parotid duct, or the transverse artery. \u00a0He uses a fanning technique for injections.<\/li>\n<li>Look at patients on animation and when looking down. \u00a0Animation meaning smiling.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid voluma intra-orbit.<\/li>\n<li>Malar crease &#8211; you can solve some of the ones which disappear when the patients smile.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Great presentation! \u00a0There is always much to learn from other Voluma injectors.<\/p>\n<p>Disclaimer: \u00a0The above notes are not my thoughts. \u00a0They come from a surgeon who works outside of the United States. \u00a0They are interesting and I thought I&#8217;d share. \u00a0The talk on <em>Juvederm Voluma<\/em> was brought to us by Allergan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight I participated in a live lecture on the web regarding Juvederm Voluma\u00a0injection techniques. \u00a0I guess they call this format a webcast or webinar.
